Our 2025 winter home in Mesa, Arizona

May be an image of textWell, we've made it once again to our winter home in Mesa, Arizona at Towerpoint RV resort. We've been here a while already and are falling into our normal routine.

For those who don't know, this resort has live music five (sometimes six) days a week and excellent facilities for doing just about anything one would want to do. We often use the fitness room to work out in the mornings and then visit one of the bands in the afternoon to listen to music where Sharon will definitely do a lot of dancing.

This park is one of the many Cal-am parks in the greater Phoenix metroplex. One of the benefits of being at a Cal Am Park is while staying in one of them, you are allowed to visit all of them.

There are five of these parks within a few miles of each other so we check the music calendar to see who's playing at each of these parks and go to the ones having bands we like the best. This strategy also gives us the opportunity to meet new friends in other parks. Sharon has met quite a few friends who requested she text where we are going so wherever we go we rarely sit alone!

We often take advantage of some of the hiking and bird watching in the area when we crave the beauty of nature. In addition we have discovered some favorite spots for happy hour especially in the entertainment part of town in Gilbert Arizona a mere 10 minute drive away from our park

We’ll update more on our winter stay but for now I need to hit one of the hot tubs in the park…

Seeing a bobcat in Tucson AZ

We left Benson AZ and started heading west for about 50 miles before stopping at Rincon Country West RV Park in Tucson Arizona. Another passport america park that we have visited before.

The park itself is one of the true RV resorts with everything imaginable on the premises. Great pools, 2 fitness centers, pickleball courts and lots of activities with something for everyone. Having wintered in Florida, Texas, Arizona and California there are no parks with as many amenities for long term winter stays as there are in Arizona. This is why we have lately been wintering in this state and not our former favorites.

While we miss the green, the birding and sandy beaches found in our previous locations, they are replaced in Arizona by great hiking and seeing different birds. One of our favorite places to walk and birdwatch is at the Sweetwater wetlands in northwestern Tucson. This is a riparian oasis created by treated water from the Tucson citizens.

It is easy to kill a couple of hours walking slowly around the manmade ponds searching for the flying denizens hiding in the reeds and desert scrub. One afternoon we were birding when I heard a rustling sound in the thick brush. Looking for the bird creating the noise I was suddenly very surprised to see a bobcat meandering through the scrub.

The bobcat appeared to be on a quest for either some water or a unsuspecting bird for a mid afternoon snack. Being on this mission it was not super interested in us and crossed the path we were on to get nearer to the water. Of course we snapped a ton of photos to commemorate this exciting moment.
